Radio Lane, Arkansas City, KS. 67005. The second POD is located in Burden, at the Burden High School, 700 N. Main Street, Burden, KS. 67019. The third POD is the Dexter High School, 311 N. Main Street, Dexter, KS. 67038. Udall High School is the fourth POD, located at 301 W. 4th Street, Udall, KS. 67146. The fifth POD is the Winfield High School, 300 Viking Boulevard, Winfield, KS. 67156. Points of Dispensing (PODs) are designated dispensing locations for persons who are currently healthy but may have been "exposed" and need prophylactic medication. You will be notified through news outlets if you need to receive medications. In the event a POD site is not available, alternate locations have been extablished. PODs are sometimes identified as Neighborhood Distribution Centers.
The Point of Dispensing (POD) is the primary tool used by the local health department to get appropriate medicines and information into the public sector by the quickest and most efficient manner. To this end, it is requested that only one person that is 18 or older, and typically the head of the household, come through the POD and receive medicines and instructions for all members of their household. Individuals that are ill and/or showing symptoms of “exposure” should go to their local hospital for treatment.
POD sites are designed for people "exposed" but without illness; otherwise hospitals are the route of treatment.
Local law enforcement will provide protection to the POD site. Security will be strictly enforced and the local police and/or county sheriff will be on-site in significant numbers. Peace officers will assist with the smooth flow of clients throughout the POD.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) across south central Kansas will provide triage at the POD sites. Symptomatic patients capable of self-transport to the hospital will do so, otherwise, EMS services will be provided.
In many communities across south central Kansas, the fire department is the agency tasked to provide safety at the POD sites. They will assist law enforcement personnel and aid with triage.
